For all of the Nintendo-Demand vets out there... you know that we spoke to Nintendo about this revision years ago. We felt that they were taking away the desire/ability to create games that used dual analogs... and peripherals were not going to increase the desire or the variety of game genres.
There were arguments that it shouldn't have dual analogs in a revision because there would be games that aren't compatible with it the 2nd circle pad (though they simply wouldn't use it like many other games don't). So to have the "New Nintendo 3DS" system with a "C" button (as seen on the Gamecube controller)... its a beautiful thing.

We also mentioned the customizable art covers for 3DS, which is cool to see. The NFC is built-in for Amiibo, etc. (we didn't see that coming), you can play music, view images, it downloads at a faster rate (your internet speed still plays a factor), etc. so the revision is more than just a cosmetic one... and as long as they keep on thinking forward and providing things that make sense, they get a thumbs up.
The "C" button will more than likely increase the different genres of games available on the 3DS, making the handheld even more kickass than it already is (mine is in my pocket almost as much as my wallet & cellphone, I have a 3rd pocket on some of my jeans that allow it to be carried comfortably... and i'm not ashamed to admit it). Haha!
Get excited if you have a 3DS (or planned on getting one). I see Metroid Prime possibly happening now, (freaking) Xenoblade Chronicles is coming to the 3DS (which has been in the works for awhile), Monster Hunter 4 should be appreciated a lot more with the "C" button added in... and no need for an awkward circle pad pro peripheral (that could've been created to resemble the pro controller if they listened, but it is what it is). October 11th (2014) is the release date of the New Nintendo 3DS in Japan... so expect the US & EU releases to follow at a later date (i'd be surprised if its released this year in the States).
We may be bringing you a review for... Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy - Curtain Call
If you're curious about this next installment of Theatrhythm, we may be reviewing this title (we'll keep you posted). Its not set in stone because its up to Square-Enix overall... but we received the heads up that we might have the chance of reviewing the game. I have a pair of headphones ready for that experience. The game will be released on Sept. 16th (2014)... so if you're into rhythm games, give it a go. There is a demo available in the eShop... so you know what to do.
To the Square-Enix team, keep an eye on the success of key games on the Wii U and the 3DS... because if that isn't a clue as to why you should release games like Kingdom Hearts 3 on the console, I don't know what will.

Some Amiibo are currently available for pre-order... check em' out! (You may have a hard time getting your hands on Link... it may be sold out on release day):
