Mario & Sonic have more potential than the Olympics, more potential than a (awesome) smashfest in an arena... they deserve a full out adventure that delivers the best of both worlds. Check out the video (from a fellow Nin-Dem) below... it explains how the game could be delivered on both the Wii U & 3DS. Though I wouldn't mind a cross platform game... having a 3D platformer/Open world'sh environment on the Wii U, and a 2D platformer on the 3DS... would be pretty cool too, especially if it results in two entirely different games being released. I can't talk like it's coming out yet, because it hasn't even been developed or considered (from what I know), but I will also contact both developer about this.
If they make this happen, they should also make Shenmue happen, but i'd take any awesome game I can get. :p
We may be getting a lot more consideration after the recent business meeting where Iwata talked to investors about the long term growth of the company.
There will be no price drops for the Wii U anytime soon... which I wouldn't expect either, that would be kind of stupid... but they should really provide consumers with coupons for a percentage off (with the purchase of a 3DS or vice versa; I think it would be a smart incentive program). I've mentioned something like this before, it doesn't have to be a huge percentage off, but that may encourage them to purchase the other platform. Even if they pass off the coupon to a friend... that's a purchase for Nintendo to benefit from.
He also mentioned that the Nintendo Network IDs are a part of a long term plan they have so that they don't lose their connection with their fans every time they release a new system. This makes sense... because every time you create a new system you basically have to win your fanbase all over again (which is another reason why accomplishments would be great to incorporate... that's the only reason some gamers bought the Xbox One... I kid you not).
Their core business will remain the same (the integration between videogame hardware and software), and (for the haters ready to see a white flag)... they are not giving up on their hardware systems to shift that attention towards other platforms. They are refocusing to make the Wii U Nintendo's top priority, and blame its current state on their own lack of effort. They have Miyamoto's software development department (he has his own freaking department... I love it), working on something that focuses on the gamepad and a 1 player experience. They may be showing 3rd parties how to actually unstupify themselves as far as 1 player games (possibly with online multiplayer) are concerned... but I don't want to read that deep into it, because I need to see... but one thing that should be done is the creation of a software that makes it easy to port from PC to Wii U (some software programs allow for 1-click deployment... based on advertising, and Nintendo should create something also).
They also plan on increasing their own offerings for the gamepad's NFC (more info about this will be revealed during E3). There are so many things that can be used for, and if they actually listen to some of our arguments... it could prove beneficial. If they wanted to employ Nintendo-Demand as a creative adviser, HAHAHAHAHA things would get a bit crazy as far as new IPs go (crazy in the most awesome way possible).
As far as mobile is concerned, the development team wasn't given restrictions as far as what they can do on mobile... but the overall goal is to leverage those platforms to gain more customers for the Nintendo platforms. So even though they weren't given limits... I don't think they want to cause the opposite to happen, because that may cost them their employment. Iwata would like to make money beyond their 1st party game platforms though... WITH Nintendo's characters no less, so lets see what happens. The end result appears to be the same though, increase Nintendo's fanbase by going to the consumers and bringing them to their 1st party hardware and software (thanks to uncharted areas... that don't appear to include known competitors).
What they could do with this, is allow for people to spectate certain games from mobile devices and stuff (spectating online... no access to chat without a Nintendo Network ID to keep the sickos and anonymous idiots at bay). :p It may do what a Nin-Dem said recently, which is decrease the Nintendo knock-offs available on mobile also.
Their new plans for flexible pricing will definitely work also, though they've done that in a sense... a lot of games are priced unfairly in the industry (and other companies need to follow suit; Nintendo releases solid games, which isn't common practice by more than a few developers... sooo i'd like to see this adopted by others also).
The plans to work with more developers, sounds familiar doesn't it? We laid into them with this demand not too long ago, and they should listen more often (if it isn't just a great coincidence, like a few other things), because it would benefit them and their audience.
It sounds like they may be making some beneficial moves here over the next few years... but at the same time, they need to be careful of the nasty double edged that may create. One of the things they should've mentioned, is the death of sales predictions... because no one can predict the future, and I wouldn't want them to devalue their characters by making the wrong move. Tread softly Iwata.
I think they will be alright overall, and a lot of great games area headed our way... like Mario Kart 8 in May, I guess they just want to make sure that it will be more than alright, but as long as it doesn't involve greed (because that can shake things up to a disastrous degree).
I don't know about you, but I have mixed feeling about it... but the good outweigh the uncertainties.
